Varanasi to become first Indian city to launch cable car service in public transport


Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi’s parliamentary constituency, will soon become the first Indian city to use cable car services in public transport. It is proposed to build the third public transport cable car in the world and the first in India between Cantt Station (Varanasi Junction) and Church Square (Godauliya) in order to reduce congestion.

Soon, with the start of this Rs 424 crore cable car project, Kashi Vishwanath temple and Dashashwamedh Ghat will be easily accessible.

Covering an aerial distance of 4.2 km, the cable car is expected to save time and money for tourists dealing with traffic jams on their way to one of the oldest cities in the world, also known as the Gateway. entry from eastern India.

Varanasi Development Authority Vice President Isha Duhan said, “India will be the third country in the world after Bolivia and Mexico City, and Varanasi will be the first city to use a cable car for public transport. This pilot project is being developed at the cutting edge of technology on the Kyoto lines in Japan, she added.

The main terminus will be at Cantt station while the other stations will be at the crossings of Sajan Tiraha, Rathyatra and Girjaghar (Godowlia).

We can cover 4.2 km in just 15 minutes. The tram with about 220 trolleys will run at a height of about 45 meters. Each cable car will have 10 places. The cars will move within a 90 second to 120 second gap. About 4000 people will be able to travel in one direction at a time.

The cable car will also operate at night. The cost of the project will be split between the Center and the state government at 80:20.

The Varanasi Development Authority VC also informed that all stations built for the cable car will provide insight into Kashi art, religion and culture.
