SAN FRANCISCO, October 5, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Uber and GetSetUp announced a partnership to ensure that seniors who want to use the carpooling app feel confident and comfortable browsing Uber.
Throughout the pandemic, older people have been teaching other older people on GetSetUp’s interactive live learning platform how to use apps like Zoom, Google, etc. These courses have helped many people master new technological skills. There are many apps that older people want to use to help them lead more independent and healthy lives. But it can be difficult for non-digital natives to navigate the latest technology. The GetSetUp service has shown that when older people teach other older people, it helps reduce any fear, hesitation or intimidation about learning new technologies.
GetSetUp is now applying its proven methodology of training seniors through peer-led courses to help interested seniors access the Uber app. The courses will ensure that new Uber users and those already familiar with the platform learn more about Uber products and features. The lessons will be available for free several times a week during the pilot and will learn how to navigate in the Uber app.
The “silver economy”, driven by the purchasing power of the elderly, is expected to grow faster than any other segment of the world’s population. The number of people worldwide who are 65 years of age and over is should grow from 524 million in 2010 to 1.5 billion in 2050. In addition, today’s seniors will live longer than previous generations. They have more money than millennials and are determined to lead active and meaningful lives that are rich in experiences, including using the latest technologies and applications.
That’s why GetSetUp is delighted to partner with Uber to launch these co-created courses. GetSetUp has already partnered with the States of Michigan and new York, Orange County, and dozens of other government and community organizations to offer a catalog of over 1,800 courses providing technology training and mental enrichment to their senior residents.
“We are delighted to partner with GetSetUp to expand access to our platform”, noted Niraj Patel, director of passenger operations at Uber. “With these courses, we hope that new customers will learn more about our product offerings and feel comfortable browsing our app for the first time, so that they can enjoy the freedom that comes with having seamless mobility services at your fingertips. ”
GetSetUp’s interactive live lessons, delivered in small, one-hour sessions, give learners the opportunity to engage live with their peers and ask questions. Peer courses build confidence, promote knowledge sharing and allow common references to facilitate learning.
“People 60 and over want to live healthy and more independent lives and can do it best when they are able to take advantage of important services like Uber,” says the co-founder of GetSetUp, Laurent Kosick. “To this day, older people don’t know how to safely and comfortably learn and navigate new applications, websites and technologies. GetSetUp’s mission is to be the safe and secure place where seniors can come and learn how to use their smart devices, apps, and other important services to lead happy, healthy and more independent lives. We’re excited to partner with Uber to empower seniors to use Uber to live and travel more independently. “

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: How do you access a ride with the push of a button? Over 15 billion trips later, we’re creating products to bring people closer to where they want to be. By changing the way people, food, and things move in cities, Uber is a platform that opens the world to new possibilities.
