What you need to know about the new pay scale for paramilitary personnel

The newly established pay structure for paramilitary personnel is known as the Merged Paramilitary Pay Structure (CONPASS).Nigeria Customs Service Salary

This new salary structure provides for an increase in the basic salary and allowances of Nigerian customs officers and all other paramilitary organizations.

REMARK: The Nigerian Army, Air Force and Navy do not fall into this category (para-military).

Nigeria Customs Service Functions and Roles

  1. Collection of customs revenue (import/excise duties and other taxes/levies) and accounting thereof;
  2. conduct anti-smuggling activities;
  3. Perform various security functions;
  4. Generation of statistics for planning and budgeting purposes;
  5. Monitoring of currency usage, etc;
  6. Engage in research, planning and enforcement of federal government tax policies;
  7. Processing of manifests;
  8. Licensing and registration of customs brokers;
  9. Registration and designation of collection banks; and

Allowances in the Nigerian Customs Service

There are various allowances in the Nigerian Customs Service. However, this does not mean that they are entitled to all office staff.

While some of these allowances are open to all personnel, others are tailored to specific personnel due to their rank and position in the Customs Service. For example, housing allowances are only granted to civil servants who are not housed by the federal government.

The Nigerian Customs Service Pay Scale

The salary structure of the Nigerian Customs Service is in line with the new salary structure for all paramilitary personnel, known as the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS).LEG Form

According to this salary structure, the lowest paid officer in the customs service, the I Spector, must earn 27,779 naira per month. He is also entitled to an additional N4,000 per month if he is not provided with accommodation.

On average, a customs officer will earn N75,000 per month and about N900,000 per year. It usually depends on the level of service and educational qualification.

The Comptroller General of Customs, who is the highest ranking officer, receives the highest salary, while Assistant Comptrollers General and Assistant Comptrollers General follow in that order.LEG Result

Recently, the federal government improved the salary structure of the Nigerian Customs Service. This upgrade will ensure that officers make use of good allowances every month, coupled with a slight increase in base salary.
