Metro Transit: changes to bus services, upcoming and planned

By JOHN CHARLES WILSON

Metro Transit quarterly service changes on Game 26, 2022 that affect the small street readership area are as follows:

  • The 15-minute southbound frequency of the Orange Line is extended from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Route 2 will have minor adjustments to better reflect current usage.
  • Route 5 will have minor adjustments to better reflect actual travel times.
  • Route 14 will have fewer morning school trips to South and Roosevelt High Schools, and will run every 20 minutes instead of every 15 minutes during rush hour.
  • Route 22 will undergo minor adjustments to reflect actual travel times downtown and will also be reduced to once every 20 minutes instead of every 15 minutes during peak hours.
  • Route 27 will have schedule adjustments for better connections with the Orange Line.

Additionally, Metro Transit plans to make Route 22 more efficient, starting in August 2022, by simplifying the route and reducing stops to increase speed. Simplifications include reducing four branches to two at the north end and eliminating a minor rush hour route detour through a residential area at the south end. These changes have little impact on residents of Phillips. However, some of the planned stop reductions are at Phillips:

  • Stops on Cedar Ave. at 27th St. in both directions should be eliminated.
  • It is proposed to move the northbound stop to Cedar Ave. in Lake St. near the cemetery on the other side of Lake St. near the City Market.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for those of us who don’t like wearing masks. The mask requirement may end on April 17, 2022. This is something many have been waiting for for a long time!
