Block Island Large Hotels: slide presentation available on request in the West Gallery Viewing Room

The museum shop will be open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 11.

We are grateful for a grant from the Champlin Foundation which helps fund the installation of storm windows on the 3rd floor as well as the newly restored windows on the 1st floor. Work on these projects has started and we can now open all of our windows with cross breezes in the west gallery. We will also begin work funded by the 1772 Foundation / Preserve RI grant for the restoration of the dome.

We recently updated the website to include the new virtual exhibits on the early days of Block Island, the walking tour of the Old Harbor, and the interview with a descendant of the Manisseans.

We fully opened our doors on July 3rd with updated exhibits throughout the museum. On July 8th, we celebrated together and shared stories with members of the local Manissean Tribal Council, Pokanoket elders and a wampum wampum Shinnicock. We received the Executive Director of the Tomaquag Museum, Loren Spears, who gave a talk on the team involved in the annotation of “Key into the Language of America” by Roger William. Signed copies are still available in the museum store along with many new titles on a range of historical subjects. On July 7, URI professor Marcus Nevius gave a talk on “New Stories of Slavery in Southern New England”.

We are now booking guided tours and off-site historic walking tours. In the meantime, visit us on Instagram & Facebook – we have two separate pages, our “official” page is managed by our staff, the other a membership page, where we invite people to share photos and memories of Block Island. Every effort will be made to answer questions posted on Facebook. Email: [email protected]

Off-site historic walking tours booking is available for the Island Cemetery, Palatine Tombs, and the Manissean Village site. Guided tours of the museum’s exhibits are available daily or by appointment. Call 401-864-4357 for more information or to book a tour.
