3 police officers, 3 others burned alive in the Kebbi accident

Six People including three police officers tied to a commercial bank bullion van were reportedly burned to ashes in a road accident along Argungu, Kebbi State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists.

He said: “On September 27, 2022, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident/fire, along Argungu/Birnin Kebbi road, involving a van belonging to a commercial bank and four other motor vehicles and a motorcycle.

“The accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying PMS jerry cans, was suspected of being chased by a Nigeria Custom Service patrol team from Birnin Kebbi.

“Upon arriving at the village of Jeda, the Carina E car collided head-on with the bullion van and as a result caught fire and consumed three other cars.

“As a result, a total of five vehicles and one motorcycle were burned to ashes.

“Six people, including three police officers, also died in the inferno, while five other people, including three police officers, suffered injuries of varying degrees and were rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Birnin Kebbi, for medical care.

“On receipt of the report, the Police Commissioner of Kebbi State Command, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, promptly visited the scene where he offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed to the Almighty to grant the lives of deceased souls eternal rest and their families the courage to bear irreparable loss.

“CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora also assures members of the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, please.”
